The Situationists Society of Greater Gabriola held its inaugural meeting on the Twin Beaches Store parking lot on February 16th, 2003. A mission statement was wrought over oranges, dried cranberries and a Zero chocolate bar. Broadly defined, it calls for the provision of an abstract counter-point to the utilitarian imperatives of daily life. An empty retsina bottle was on the point of being pressed into service as a vessel for coffee when the meeting suddenly adjourned.
